STUDENT RESOURCES
Here students will find extra materials to supplement lessons. Check back, as this section will grow over time.
Recommended books and sheet music.
Below is a list of books frequently used in lessons. After your first lesson, I will recommend which books to purchase since they are for different skill levels and musical goals. There are all kinds of sheet music of various quality and accuracy, but these are ones I've found to be most helpful for students. Because each student is unique, this is by no means a comprehensive list and books not listed here may be required.
An invaluable resource for sheet music in the public domain (70 years after the author's death) is the Petrucci Music Library, or IMSLP. Here you will find music of the early 20th century and before, with more and more added daily. Since they tend to be old (some even in the composer's handwriting), some editions on the site may be difficult to read.
Listening
Music is a language, and like any language, listening is vital. Being exposed to new music opens up new worlds, and increases your musical vocabulary. Below are playlists of some of the most well-known and important piano and guitar music on YouTube. You may not like them all, and that's OK, but having an awareness of all the different types of music in the world will make your own musical experience richer. New songs and pieces will be added regularly.
